SUMMARY:Mike Block Trio
DESCRIPTION:Mike Block Trio\, featuring Joe K. Walsh (mandolin/vocals) & Zachariah Hickman (bass/vocals)\, is led by cellist/singer/composer Mike Block\, a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble who has been hailed as “one of the bravest\, most intriguing musicians on the American fusion scene” by Gramophone. The trio fertilizes American roots music with contemporary and international influences\, bringing an exciting and personal perspective to the acoustic music scene. \n“A collection of playful and stoic reinterpretations of Appalachian folk and world beat music. Never before have we heard the combination of these three instruments traverse such a wide breadth of music so effortlessly; it’s equal parts Baroque\, bluegrass and latin jazz\, virtuosic all the same.” ~WBUR Boston

SUMMARY:Met Opera in HD: Beethoven’s Fidelio
DESCRIPTION:Music by Ludwig van Beethoven\nLibretto by Joseph Sonnleithner \nFollowing a string of awe-inspiring Met performances\, soprano Lise Davidsen stars as Leonore\, who risks everything to save her husband from the clutches of tyranny. Tenor David Butt Philip is the political prisoner Florestan\, sharing the stage with bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny as the villainous Don Pizarro\, veteran bass René Pape as the jailer Rocco\, and soprano Ying Fang and tenor Magnus Dietrich\, in his company debut\, as the young Marzelline and Jaquino. Bass Stephen Milling sings the principled Don Fernando\, and Susanna Mälkki conducts the Met’s striking production\, which finds modern-day parallels in Beethoven’s stirring paean to freedom. \nFidelio is Beethoven’s only opera. The score employs a powerful and innovative use of the orchestra\, as well as evocative choral parts only fitting for the composer of the uplifting “Ode to Joy\,” to be performed at GTMF’s opening week on July 3 and 5! \nEstimated run time: 2 hours and 40 minutes\, including one intermission with exclusive behind-the-scenes content and cast interviews \n\n \n \n
