JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING
The Grand Teton Music Festival and the Center of Wonder present the Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD broadcast of Hansel and Gretel this Thursday, December 14th at 7PM.
Richard Jones’s clever production of Humperdinck’s fairytale opera is based on the Brothers Grimm story. Vladimir Jurowski conducts the sweeping score and delightful cast, including Alice Coote in the role of Hansel and Christine Schäfer as Gretel. This 2008 production—sung in English and only two hours long—is a holiday favorite for audiences of all ages!
“Humperdinck’s Wagnerian score abounds in singable, justly loved tunes, and Mr. Jurowski finds a judicious balance between weight and whimsy in his subtly paced performance, drawing rich textures and inner voices from the orchestra.” (New York Times)
The Metropolitan Opera stages more than 200 performances in New York each year, and the Grand Teton Music Festival is proud to present seven of those performances in Jackson Hole. The Met: Live in HD broadcasts exemplify GTMF’s mission to bring exhilarating music to Jackson Hole year-round.
