Music Festival lays out full 8-week season – Jackson Hole News & Guide

If you need something to hang onto to get through these darkest days of winter, hang onto this: It’s a mere 158 days until the opening concert of the 2022 Grand Teton Music Festival.

The venerable Jackson Hole nonprofit announced preliminary details of its 61st season, which is scheduled to start July 3 and run a full eight weeks through Aug. 27. Sir Donald Runnicles returns for his 18th season as music director, leading a symphonic ensemble made up of musicians from many of the finest orchestras and university music departments from across North America, along with guest conductors, soloists and groups — some of who are old friends of the festival, others new additions to the GTMF fold.

The general rhythm of each week remains set, with orchestra members performing an array of chamber music of their own choosing on Wednesday, Thursday night “Gateway” concerts venturing into non-classical realms like jazz, Broadway and American folk, and Friday and Saturday nights devoted to orchestral programs. And of course the season will open with a couple of free outdoor programs staged at the Center for the Arts Park: a free family concert on July 3 and the favorite Fourth of July “Patriotic Pops” spectacle, starring guest vocalist Capathia Jenkins.
