JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING – September 11, 2014 – The Grand Teton Music Festival’s Tune-Up program, a collaboration with the Teton County School District, provides supplemental music instruction for every student in the Teton County School District’s Middle and High School band and orchestra programs. Since 2004 nearly 400 students each year have received this additional music instruction through Tune-Up.
Starting this week and continuing throughout the 2014–2015 academic year, seven local professional musicians will collaborate with TCSD band and orchestra faculty to augment music instruction. These musicians, with expertise in a wide variety of instruments, supplement the orchestra and band programs by rehearsing with the students, working under the faculty’s direction on overarching concepts, and providing individualized instruction on specific techniques and skills. Supplemental instruction from Tune-Up enables each student and the entire program to achieve higher performance levels.
TCSD Band Director Pete Closson said, “We are very fortunate to have local musicians such as our Tune-Up instructors, who are notonly highly qualified, but who have also made the commitment to what we’re all trying to achieve for our students. I’ve taught in five school districts in three states, and without question, the Tune-Up program is the most beneficial instructional asset I’ve had. And importantly, it benefits all of the students in our band program.”
