GTMF, pianist Einhorn tip hats to Broadway – JH News&Guide
When making a list of great American composers — Copland, Bernstein, Barber, etc. — Andy Einhorn begs you to remember the legends of Broadway. Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Lin-Manuel Miranda, he says, are equally deserving of a niche in the pantheon.
“As music continues to evolve, what we’re noticing is the symbiosis between styles is widening a bit to allow for strictly classical programs to start to embrace Broadway’s Golden Age,” the pianist and music director said, speaking from the Aspen Music Festival, where he was leading a concert performance of “Guys and Dolls,” Frank Loesser’s 1950 classic. “It’s the reason I find myself at Cleveland or Philadelphia doing staged concert musicals.”
Or at the Grand Teton Music Festival, where Einhorn has presented three tributes to the Great White Way since 2018, including two with his longtime collaborator, six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald.
Einhorn is back for GTMF’s third and final “Gateway” concert of 2026, “Give Our Regards to Broadway,” which starts at 7 p.m. Monday at Center for the Arts.
Einhorn is ideal for producing such a tribute, having served as music director for Broadway revivals of “Carousel,” starring Renee Fleming, “Hello, Dolly!” with Bette Midler, and many others, along with TV credits on Peabody and Emmy award-winning projects. His history in the Tetons dates back to the 2001 premiere of “Petticoat Rules,” a musical about the early days of Jackson Hole.
