Certain pieces of music evoke instant associations: Rossini’s “William Tell” overture = The Lone Ranger; Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” = a nation mourning; Wagner’s “Ring Cycle” = Bugs Bunny (IYKYK).
The Grand Teton Music Festival evokes all kinds of memories, and maybe creates new ones, with two outdoor concerts in the Teton Village Commons this weekend: Friday’s “Music of the American West” and Saturday’s “Fantasia 2026.”
Multimillion-dollar renovations to the Festival’s 50-plus-year-old Walk Festival Hall required creative venue changes. Chamber music and all other orchestra concerts this season have been relocated to the Jackson Hole High School auditorium, where new acoustic panels purchased by GTMF for the stage make for a bright, lively sound.
“We’ll perform beneath a tent overlooking Walk Festival Hall as it begins its transformation,” GTMF Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles said in an email. “I wanted our community to gather together and enjoy the music while looking toward the future of our beloved hall.”
Friday’s Western-themed program will start with two of the five movements of Ferde Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite.”
