Musicians with the Grand Teton Music Festival will perform Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet as part of this week’s Chamber Music Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Walk Festival Hall.
Also known as the Piano Quintet in A Major, it is five movements for piano and stringed instruments. Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828) bridged the worlds of classical and romantic music. He is known for his prolific melodies, having written over 600 lieder and nine symphonies.
The “Trout” Quintet, like much of Schubert’s music, was never published until after his death. The piece gets its name from the fourth movement, in which themes and variations are based upon one of Schubert’s own songs, “Die Forelle” — “The Trout.”
…Two more chamber music concerts are scheduled for the festival’s 2022 season: an evening of Mozart, Ravel and Kreisler on Aug. 10, followed by works by Mozart, Debussy and Coleridge-Taylor on Aug. 17.
