Stripling plays for the love of Pops – Jackson Hole News & Guide

Byron Stripling presents the first Gateway concert of the Grand Teton Music Festival’s 2022 season, a show featuring his touring rhythm section, a big band lineup of horns enlisted by the festival and vocal powerhouse Carmen Bradford. The music will start at 8 p.m. Thursday in Walk Festival Hall.

…Thursday’s concert will hopscotch across Satchmo’s storied career, from his early hits like “Tiger Rag” and “St. James Infirmary” to highlights of his unforgettable collaborations with Fitzgerald to some of the songs he recorded late in life that reinvigorated his fame.

“All those people — Ellington, Basie, Armstrong — this is the gift of my family,” Stripling said. “Live music is king in my book. There’s something about that sort of thing hitting you in the theater. The theater is a magical place where transformation can happen, where a song can be delivered that makes you love one another.”

In the spirit of Louis Armstrong, Byron Stripling hopes to have that effect on Thursday.
